Acrylic on canvas.
Inspired my my love for my family. At this time, it was just Me, Phillip, and our 2 dogs, Samantha and layla. Samantha has since passed, and we have another dog, Daisy, a son, 16 month old noah, and I'm 36 weeks pregnant with a little girl, baby kinley rose. This feels like a different lifetime, and it was only a few years ago. Sharpie markers on sketch pad.
I thought this would be fun to try. I love tea, and tea pots, and have recently stumbled upon "tangling" as a "thing." It's relaxing, like tea, and this was a fun picture to draw. My son's first word was "bird" and every time he saw one, he excitedly yelled "BIRD."
On his first thanksgiving, about a month before his first birthday, I bought a sketch book/journal for us to share. I'd colored with him a few times, and created an art monster out if him. He loves books as much as coloring, so why not combine the two. Plus, this way, we can look back at fun memories and read/look at things before and after our art sessions. Markers
Sometimes if I attempt a face, it ruins the whole thing lol. Occasionally, I leave the face blank, and I'm glad I did here. I like the background and her little hat headband. :) This beach access sign on the fence image was actually a photo I took on our "cousin trip" in 2013. I'm the oldest of 17 cousins on my mom's side. 3 of us and our significant others met in Gulf Shores. I came from Georgia, one cousin came from texas, and one came from Florida.
I don't know why I decided to make the "post card" of Florida, and not gulf shores Alabama, but hey, that's the beauty of art I guess. :) Markers
I love owl images, and this one was a lot of fun. I think the bow & eyes make her really adorable. The purpose of this image was a pop of color. Although I do love the colors of the bird, I think the birdcage is my favorite part.
Another inspiration prompt from embrace your art daily Facebook group was #7 "Zentangle."
At this point, this image was by far my most intricate zentangle picture. I have always loved elephants, with their trunks up, so I thought it would be a perfect outline for this prompt. "elephant, giraffe, & monkey for noah" Crayola markers My son's nursery (and a lot of his toys) are based on a jungle theme. He has the "Butterscotch" patterns by Lambs and Ivy. My great grandmother collected Elephants (with their trunks UP) and even as a preemie, Noah wiggled and moved like a little monkey. The giraffe hadn't held much sentimental value to us, until the three animals came on his mobile (2 monkeys, a giraffe, and an elephant) he LOVED his mobile from the first day he got it. He was so tiny, and so cute staring at that mobile going round and round. When it would stop, he would fling his arms and look around for one of us to start it back up again. Just for fun, we would all monkey and elephant noises at him and he'd smile and sometimes laugh. Now, he makes the noises too. He's obsessed with books/reading and coloring, so last thanksgiving, I bought a journal for us to share. Sometimes it's just scribbles and doodles, but sometimes, I draw things I know he'll have a fun and positive reaction to. He LOVES this picture, every time he sees it, he says "oooh ooh ooh, aah aah aah" like a monkey, then he puts his arm out in front of his face (like an elephant trunk) and makes a god awful noise which I can only assume is "his elephant." It cracks me up because it never fails. I love my time with my little mister, and I love that at only 15 months, he's got such an appreciation for books AND art. I'm one proud mom! |
